Name Your 3 Numbers Or Stop Calling Yourself a CEO
“What are the 3 numbers that run your business?”
Could you answer — with zero prep, no dashboards, no Notion docs, just you and your brain?
Or would you stall?
Would you start listing metrics that sound good but don’t actually drive your decisions?
I’ve been there. I had dashboards that looked like Times Square at midnight.
Revenue. Engagement. CAC. NPS. Website visitors. Sleep score. (Okay, maybe not the last one. But close.)
Here’s the truth I had to choke down:
If you can’t name the 3 numbers that run your business, you’re not leading it — you’re orbiting it.
You don’t need to track more.
You need to track right.
Three numbers. That’s all it takes. The rest? Distraction dressed up as productivity.
Because when you’re clear on your 3, everything else falls in line:
What to say no to.
Where to put your energy.
How to know if you're winning — before your bank account tells you.
It also means your business can run without you breathing down its neck.
I wrote more about that in If You Took a Week Off… Would Anything Still Work? — it’s worth a read if you’re still playing the irreplaceable hero.
This is the moment you become dangerous in the best way.
Best,
Peter Delle
